I'm originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and I'm currently finishing up my PhD in neuroscience at the University of Utah. Dan was my "big brother" mentor when I joined the program. Not only did Dan teach me how to be a good scientist, he taught this Cajun boy how to snowboard. I remember trying desperately to keep up with Dan, starting to feel proud of myself, and then seeing Dan suddenly disappear off a cliff and realizing I had a long way to go! A good mentor always keeps his mentee out of their comfort zone!

Being Idaho Falls natives, we would frequently carpool home for the holidays, with the occasional stop at the top of Monida Pass for snowball fights. Over the years, we have shared many adventures snowboarding, backpacking, and camping. After our departure from Moscow, we’ve made great memories with Dan and Jade during their visits back to Idaho, including camping trips at Redfish Lake or spending time with them at the Ryskamp cabin. To this day I think of Dan and Jade at the cabin every time I hear David Bowie. I currently live in Idaho Falls, ID and work as a Physician Assistant in plastics and reconstructive surgery. I love spending time with my beautiful family- husband Kevin, our son Zachary, and our two black labs. I’m so excited for Dan and Jade’s big celebration and look forward to many more adventures with them in the future!

Neither of them made it to YouTube celebrity status (even though they can still be watched on there), so it is a good thing that they found alternative academic careers that make them happy.
